A SEASON OF THANKS AND THANKS FOR NATURE'S BEAUTY

CELEBRATING NATURE'S BEAUTY

'TIS THE SEASON

We all say that during the Holidays as families and friends gather at homes and reunions to enjoy the company of family members, celebrate another Christmas season, and raise a glass in toast to those who are no longer with us. At DeBordieu, it is also a time for reflection about our wonderful community and the natural beauty that surrounds us. As many families gather at DeBordieu for Thanksgiving  and beyond, I do hope we will take a moment to remember what brought us here, and continue the commitment to preserve and protect for future generations one of the most wonderful places we could ever wish to be.

IT'S STILL HOT, BUT FALL IS COMING SOON.......

The summer is winding down and it's time to start looking ahead to some of the wonderful Fall activities that take place annually here at the beach. On of the most exciting events is the PAWLEYS ISLAND FESTIVAL OF MUSIC AND ART. This festival is now in its 23rd year and has proudly been bringing wonderful entertainment, art exhibits, and other events to the area. More and more DeBordieu property owners are making this an important part of their weekends and are inviting friends and family to participate. Below is a breakdown of this year's Festival and I believe there are many events for everyone. Please contact me or the Festival office for more details.

Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr.On Saturday, October 5, enjoy Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr., originally of the 5th Dimension. They have enjoyed tremendous success through the years as recording artists, performers and authors. They have received 7 Grammy Awards and earned 15 gold and 3 platinum records, and enjoyed starring roles on television and stage. They are currently celebrating 40 years in the entertainment business with a musical tribute to the hits and productions that have made up their multi-faceted careers.
Elise TestoneOn Sunday, October 6th, Elise Testone will perform as a Teach My People Collaborative Fundraiser. She is a singer and songwriter from New Jersey and a graduate of CCU, who has spent the past year embarking on an ambitious journey competing on the 11th Season of the reality television show, American Idol.  Since completing her American Idol journey, Testone’s main focus is to record her first studio album.  Her Piano, Guitar and Percussion skills help aid her in the production of her original compositions.  She continues to perform throughout the country today.
emile-pandolfi-On Wednesday, October 9th, Pianist Emile Pandolfi will feature lush arrangements of time-honored popular standards and Broadway hits, seasoned with a dash of well-known classical favorites and fresh, just-discovered gems.  The night is far from a straight-laced piano “recital.” Count on his trademark quips of humor & comedy to find their way into the musical mix, and lovely guest vocalist Dana Russell adds a delicious and impressive bonus to a truly magical recipe.
VivaceVivace is an Operatic Pop vocal quartet made up of Melody Mercredi, Tiffany Desrosiers, Marc Devigne and DJ Calhoun. Vivace (pronounced vi-va-chay) means vivid, lively and full of vivaciousness.  Based out of Vancouver, Canada and formed in 2010, they have toured extensively through the US and Canada and performed at such events as the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.  Each singer, well experienced, and bursting with passion and talent, brings a particular element to the group.
Mac ArnoldOn Friday, October 11, favorite from last year, Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues will perform.   His high school band “J Floyd & The Shamrocks” was often joined by, none other than James Brown on piano. After deciding to pursue a professional music career, he joined the Charles Miller group until 1965 when he made the move to Chicago to work with recording artist/saxophonist A.C. Reed.  In late 1966, at age 24, came the opportunity of a lifetime to join the Muddy Waters Band and help shape the electric blues sound that inspired the rock and roll movement of the late 60’s and early 70’s.
Tabled event: Saturday, October 12th
Movin Out BandThe Movin’ Out Band is the smokin’ original band from the Tony Award-winning, Grammy nominated Broadway musical, “Movin’ Out.” The Movin’ Out Band includes several members of Billy Joel’s own band and is fronted by the incredibly talented pianist and vocalist Wade Preston, the original “Piano Man” in the hit musical, hand-selected by Billy Joel himself.  A Movin’ Out Band show is a fun, upbeat event featuring the best of Billy Joel’s great classic rock music that audiences love and sing along to.
For the art lovers:  Saturday, October 5  from 10 am – 4 pm (rain date October 12)
Plein-Air-Grand-StandJoin the community for the 1st Annual Seaside Palette-en Plein Air. Talented artists and their students will be demonstrating their incredible artistry all over the Lowcountry. Placed throughout the area from Murrells Inlet to Georgetown, view beautiful artwork actually being created outdoors for your viewing pleasure. Plein air is a term derived from the French phrase en plein air, which literally means ‘in the open air’. It’s a familiar concept today, but in the late 1800s when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios into nature to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight and different times of days on a subject, it was quite revolutionary.
For the family: September 28th, from 10 am – 4 pm  at Atalaya Castle, Huntington State Beach Park
chalk drawingChalk Under the Oaks, the Italian tradition of Street painting, will present painters from beginners to professionals. Street painting dates to the 16th century when artists would travel from town to town for religious festivals and transform the streets and public squares into temporary galleries for their works. The Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art brings this event to the Lowcountry as a way to teach and promote the history of this lost art to all ages and levels of artists. Chalk Under the Oaks provides a wonderful way for people in the community to share a great experience together.
There is no charge for this event and instructors will be on hand for beginners. Chalk will provided and there is absolutely no charge. Sunday is just for viewing, assuming it does not rain Saturday night.
Over the next few weeks, we are excited to bring you interviews with several of the performers.
